Free School Meals
From September 2026, the eligibility criteria for Free School Meals have changed, meaning that more children may now be entitled to receive them.
It is important to note that Pupil Premium eligibility is different from Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM).
All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to a free school meal through the Universal Infant Free School Meals scheme, regardless of their family circumstances. You do not need to apply for this entitlement.
However, if your child meets the eligibility criteria for Free School Meals based on your household circumstances, you should still apply. This is because registering for FSM may mean that your child is eligible for Pupil Premium funding, which provides additional funding to the school to support eligible pupils.
Pupil Premium funding enables us to provide additional support and opportunities for eligible pupils, helping to remove barriers to learning and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to achieve their full potential. This can include support with learning, attendance, wellbeing, enrichment and wider school experiences.
If you think your child may be eligible, we strongly encourage you to apply, even if your child already receives a free school meal through Universal Infant Free School Meals. Your application could help the school access additional funding to support your child.
How to Apply
You can check your eligibility and apply through North Yorkshire Council using the link below: Apply for Free School Meals – North Yorkshire Council
