Class 4

Meet the Class 4 Teaching Team

Mrs Kirsten Sheppard – Class Teacher

Mrs Kath Newton – Teaching Assistant

Welcome

Welcome to Class 4 - we are an eager class of learners who strive to aim high, be proud of our achievements and are resilient learners. In our carefully designed classroom, we are inspired to discover a love of learning where everyone can be supported and stretched. Our team spirit is evident in all that we do and we encourage each other to be curious, take risks in our learning and support each other to learn together. We are passionate about making sure everyone is involved in Class 4 and that they can leave Kellington Primary School with an inclusive approach to life and an ambition to make considered choices.

Curriculum

Our curriculum is strong, ambitious and builds on the learning captured so far at Kellington Primary School.

In Class 4, we say, “If you enjoy colouring in, you’ll love maths”. We pride ourselves on enabling children to fully understand the magic of number, the relevance of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and the patterns in fractions, decimals and percentages within our ‘White Rose Maths’ curriculum.

In English, we further develop our reading skills, studying a new book each term and focusing on the key skills which enable us to have a strong understanding of what we read. Increasing our vocabulary enhances our work and so we look deeply at interesting vocabulary on a daily basis. This year, we will be developing our writing skills as we focus on fiction and non-fiction styles in story-writing, poetry, letter-writing, journalism and reports. We finish our day with a story session where we listen to books for enjoyment, consider authors’ viewpoints and understand both vocabulary and comprehension.

Our Science will take us from learning about ‘animals including humans’ in this world into outer space! We will also focus on the magnificent work of Galileo Galilei and Mai Jemison.

For more information about our curriculum each half term, please look at our curriculum maps on either in the link or on the Google Classroom.

Homework

Talking to your children about what they do at school and supporting them with homework can really make a difference.

Homework is set every Friday on Google Classroom and includes:

  • Ed Shed spelling games
  • TT Rockstars
  • Reading (at least 3-4 times per week)

The children get to visit the school’s Library fortnightly to select books for enjoyment alongside school reading books. The children have the opportunity to change these books sooner if they need to. Each child’s home reads are checked weekly as our children work towards Fab 50 and Hero 100 reading rewards.

PE Days

Our PE days are Mondays and Tuesdays.
